Part of the history of Ultra Air has to start with Airline of the Americas (AOA). AOA acquired the certificate of Independent Air in 1992. Charter service was started rapidly. UltraAir was created in 1992 with plans to offer upscale service. The president of UltraAir also had an interest in AOA and he acquired AOA in December, 1992. Scheduled service began on January 17, 1993. Because of competitive pressure from other airlines, UltraAir discontinued the upscale service and went to all coach configuration. Competition was again strong and UltraAir suspended operations on Juy 13, 1994.
